About Yokohama Triennale
About us

Summary Summary

Yokohama Triennale is international exhibition of modern art to hold in Yokohama-shi once in three years. We displayed work of artist who played an active part globally, and rising artist introduced widely and showed trend of the world latest present age art until now.
We repeated times since we held the first exhibition in 2001 and, in the times when the world situation changed busily, stared at the world and Japan, society and personal relations and questioned the social significance of existence of art in multidirectional viewpoint.
The incorporated administrative agency Japan Foundation took the secretariat function as one of the hosts from the first (2001) to the third (2008) and carried out business for the purpose of promoting cultural exchange with Japan and each country through modern art. After having moved the main constituent of administration to Yokohama-shi after the fourth (2011), we repeat holding as as national project that received support of Agency for Cultural Affairs and project to symbolize culture art creation city, Yokohama and invite a lot of visitors.

Yokohama Triennale leads development of culture art creation city, Yokohama as international exhibition of modern art on behalf of our country and contributes to the spiritually rich social formation to accept diversity.

It opens by art

We cross the field and the times, and, as festival of open modern art, anyone provides opportunity to mention various expression and promotes understanding that exceeded generations.

It is connected to the world

As national project, we send new sense of values and new culture to the world continuously from Yokohama and contribute to international exchange and mutual understanding.

It spreads through town

Integrally with power of town only in Yokohama getting as culture art creation city promote.
